Shout this from the mountaintops: I am brilliant.

Today, I am going to tell you about my brilliance. You will be amazed.

I interviewed the starting quarterback today. He’s broken all the school records, passing the number one guy for career yardage on Saturday and stands at a total of 8,932 career yards with six more games to go in his career. This guy is going to throw over 10,000 yards in his collegiate football career.

I’m not trying to shove some guy in your face - I’m just trying to put this in context for you so that the impact of what I didn’t do is sufficient.

So I’m interviewing him. We sit down and we’re chatting. I’m asking questions, he’s answering, everything is running along quite smoothly. We wrap up our session, I tell him thank you very much, he says no problem. I grab my recorder and walk out of the room. I happen to glance down and for several moments my heart walks along with my feet.

I forgot to push record.

Blast! What the crap was I thinking - or not thinking - to have done something that stupid?  To my credit, I walked calmly to my cubicle and sat down at my desk. All was not lost, I thought. I have a memory - a good one.  So for the next several minutes, I typed furiously, remembering everything I could about what he had said.

My blessed memory remembered enough to save my butt, however, I really don’t think I ever want this to happen again.  Can you imagine having to call the star qb back in to the office for a rerun of our interview session? I think I would just be thanking my lucky stars he wasn’t the star offensive lineman…
